MAY PROPOSAL

Ready to pick May's books?

Reading through the list of various books y'all have recommended we read, I would suggest the following:

1. Inkheart - by Cornelia Funke (Anneke);
2. 'Till We Have Faces - C.S. Lewis (Rose);
3. The Man Who Knew Too Much - by G.K. Chesterton (Erika); and

4. I don't know. I like Sky's pick so much last month I'm inclined to go with whatever she says. I'd throw out "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain or "The House on the Strand" by Daphne Du Maurier as suggestions but if Sky has something fun in mind, I'm all for that! =D What say ye all?

Mark Twain is always good. I can't remember if I have read House on the Strand or not so obviously I should read it again.

THIS month I was prepared with a book suggestion. Have you ever read Dorothy Gilman?

She is another of my favorite authors, she writes very simply but you feel that she has gone in depth, her characters are fun and quirky, the books just make me smile. They are a kind of mystery/adventure/comedy.
I was going to suggest the first book of her series, The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax or one of her single books, The Tightrope Walker.

So we we can read Mark Twain (who I love) Daphne Dumaurier (who scares me a little but I love) or one of Dorothy Gilman's. I don't mind which you pick because I will probably read all of them eventually anyway!

I will forgo my suggestion for another of yours! So can we all agree to make the 4th book:

4. The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax by Dorothy Gilman?

(BTW, Sky, when we were visiting JB's grandparents I saw the copy of "The House on the Strand" on her bookshelf. For SOME strange reason I had it in my head that DDM had only written one book -- Rebecca. So I leaped about in excited circles and thought I'd read it while we were down in CA visiting. When his grandmother saw how excited I was to find another book by DDM she gave me the book. I always wonder how people can part with books but in this case, I'm glad she was able to! So this one, like all the other books I ever suggest, are books I own already that are just waiting to be read. This blog is just another means of making sure I get to them!)

Rebecca is really good, my favorite actually, but have you read Jamaica Inn? It creeps me out everytime I read it! It's a good read for rainy, quiet days.

Right now I am reading last years Amelia Peabody book, Serpent on the Crown because I have my NEW one sitting one the shelf and I am SO excited! (Tomb of the Golden Bird)
